We did it! The World’s Longest Yard Sale
We began the World’s Longest Yard Sale at the intersection of I-40 and 127. 127 being the road that the event follows, north and south of where we joined it. We joined mid Tennessee around Crossville and headed south, towards Chattanooga.
You definitely need to be prepared for this trip, and we were I think. We had water, food stuffs, money and a list of what we were looking for. And we were ready for the heat. Good thing we were, because it gets HOT. There was a nice breeze this year, and things were cooler (tiny bit) thanks to a cold front that had miraculously moved in the day before.
Tips for this yard sale are: Bring WATER to drink. Stop at the big groupings. We would drive past and survey if we wanted to stop, this really worked well.

As you can see, we start the 2 day road trip with some high hopes! This is mom all set with water, which turned out to be a definite must have trip accessory. The temperatures on the second day reached high 80s, but when you are shopping in the sun all day, you lose water faster than you can imagine, so we kept hydrated.
This is in a National Park in Cumberland along the way down 127 in Tennessee. We stopped here for lunch and a rest break. This park actually has a little buffet restaurant overlooking this beautiful view. Next time we are going to just eat our packed lunches on the back patio area of this park to enjoy the shade, the breeze and the view.
This is a classic expression on our 127 road trip. The moment you see something “over there” that you just have to check out. There was a lot of this at this stop, somewhere around Pikesville TN on 127. We heard that a guy moved all of these log cabins to this area and decorated them super cute (see below) just so he could realize his dream of having this little area for the Worlds Largest Yard Sale. It’s snuggled in the middle of the valley, surrounded by mountains, and one of our favourite stops.

This picture is dedicated to our World’s Best Driver for our little road trip. You rock! It’s important to have someone reliable, someone who will make sure everyone can get out of the car without falling into the ditch on the side of the road. Someone who will drive everyone safely to and from 127. Someone who has patience to repack the car hundreds of times to fit the cast iron desk next to the fragile, 100 year old oil lamps. Someone who has the stamina of a bull, the eyes of a hawk, and the SUV of the boyfriend!
I think next year we should drive this little bike all the way!!!
Another interesting find at one of our favorite stops.
This little cutie came along for the ride, her name is Angel. Let me tell you, she was an angel! She was so good during the trip, a great little travel companion.
On Sunday we stopped at Signal Mountain, in front of this little antique place. I picked up a number of things making this stop a definite must. Not only is the community adorable, the prices were great and the people were great, like I said, a definite stop!
After this we made a couple more stops, but on Sunday people were packing up. There are die-hards out there that seemed to stay till around 6 or 7, even around Crossville where we left to head back home. All in all, it’s a great experience. Next year we will head north from I-40, looking forward to it!
